The article presents and analyses changes in the capital pillar of the social insurance model in Chile, considering in particular the influences of the financial crisis. The first part deals with the pension system by discussing it's structure It then describes the performance of the pension funds, showing the numbers of participants and contributors, the value of pension assets, investment portfolio and the results of pension funds activity. The paper also discusses the solutions implemented in 2008 connected with lowering administrative fees and requiring the self-employed to join pension system compulsorily. (original abstract)
