Abstrakty

Artykuł stanowi przede wszystkim przegląd problemów, które wiążą się z aksjologicznym i normatywnym uwikłaniem koncepcji kapitału społecznego w różnych jej odmianach. Zawiera w związku z tym charakterystykę powiązań "wartości-normy-kapitał społeczny", a także zestawienie i ocenę proponowanych prób przezwyciężenia trudności, które mogą pojawić się wskutek tego uwikłania. Prezentowany artykuł jest też głosem w debacie na temat różnorodnych kontrowersji związanych z koncepcją kapitał społecznego. (fragment tekstu)

According to James S. Coleman, social capital is a category of resources like economic or human capital. Unlike other types of capital, however, social capital lies in the structure of relationship between individuals or groups. Social capital is increasingly seen as a useful concept for understanding the role of relations and networks in social and economic development. The great explosion of research on social capital following Robert D. Putnam has produced an impressive body of results confirming the importance of social capital in many different domains, but there are still many methodological and theoretical problems to explain, for example: How can social capital be measured? What are the main sources of social capital? The author analyses axiological and normative aspects of social capital: 1) social capital as a property of groups or a property of individuals 2) normative determinants and components of social capital (trust, norms, moral cohesion of group), 3) conversions and "dark side" of social capital (exclusions of outsiders, excess claims on group members, restrictions on individual freedoms, and downward leveling norms). Seeking to clarify the utility of the concept, this paper poses some proposals for researches: 1) to distinguish between "individual" and collective" social capital, 2) to distinguish between sources, owner, components and functions of social capital, 3) to take into consideration positive as well as negative functions of social capital.
