This paper looks into the construction of the economic sentiment indicators calculated by the European Commission (EC) and the composite leading indicators calculated by the OECD. The aim of the paper is to evaluate the current... performance of the ... indicators for a number of countries and to investigate possibilities of constructing sentiment indicators which would forecast cycles in economic activity with longer lead times.
