W artykule przedstawiono zakres pojęciowy innowacji, postępu technicznego i nowego produktu oraz wzajemne relacje między nimi. Nowy produkt jest zmaterializowanym efektem innowacji. W procesie jego kształtowania postęp techniczny jest tylko środkiem czy metoda realizacji przemysłowej. (abstrakt oryginalny)

A new product, which produces and satisfies the new social demands or satisfies more completely the known ones, ought to be characterized by a new or improved technical-utility parameters (use value). The conception of a new product designed and next realized on the industrial scale is the main component of the innovation cycle (product innovation). The technical progress in this cycle - the positive changes in the production technology - is merely a means of the realization of product and a means of definite utility. However, goods may be improved or produced under the technical conditions they have been produced up to the present, that is without considering the technical progress. This is possible owing to the application of a new raw material, simplification of construction, change of style and so on. The essence of utility (quality) lies in the creative conception including the process of improvement of product in general, that is in the innovation (the design, implementation, effect) - rather than in the material means of work (and the technical progress). Separation of the factors which first of all stimulate or moderate tendency to the product innovations and these which stimulate or discourage mainly to the technical innovations is considered to be important in the innovation and investment policy. To prepare the conditions for the creative activation of the engineer's - technical personnel and to develope the new utilization conceptions of the technical potential is a way of improving of the output quantity and quality which is a matter of importance in the present-day Poland.
