Poszukiwanie systemów informatycznych odpowiednich dla symulowania zjawisk ekonomicznych, można zmierzać w różnych kierunkach. Jednym z nich jest tworzenie w mniejszym lub większym stopniu wyspecjalizowanych programów przeznaczonych dla konkretnych systemów i zachodzących tam procesów. Innym jest dążenie do rozbudowania bardziej uniwersalnej koncepcji stanowiącej pewną platformę konstruowania i przeprowadzania różnorodnych symulacji bez wskazywania na ich rodzaj i przeznaczenie. Właśnie ów drugi kierunek stał się zasadniczym motywem rozprawy, prowadzącym do prezentacji autorskiego systemu symulacyjnego oraz demonstracji jego aplikacyjnego potencjału. W pracy postawione zostaje także kilka wciąż otwartych problemów skłaniających do kontynuacji wytyczonego programu badań. (fragment tekstu)

The aim of this book is to show that it is possible to unite agent-based dynamics, evolvability and adaptability, biologically inspired hierarchical structure and the dual pair of complexity and aggregation into a coherent form of a syncretic model which blends together the main approaches in complex systems research: analytic, numerical and statistical methods, deterministic chaos, and artificial intelligence. The proposed model uses the novel technique of genetic programming with linear genome which encodes programme instructions using a small alphabet of symbols grouped into codons, genes and chromosomes. The instruction language is designed to be executed by a dedicated register machine, a sample implementation of which is also described. With the procedural representation of numbers, it allows for uniform representation of both processes and their parameters, and for the use of traditional mutation operators. The ability of the syncretic model to imitate unconstrained evolution is demonstrated on the example of the problem of price negotiation. Through natural selection and mutational variation the system develops a complex bidding mechanism based on a contractor's reactions, while not knowing his rules of behaviour. The evolved solution achieves performance comparable to the behaviour of human negotiators facing the same challenge. (short original abstract)
