Scharakteryzowano wybory do Parlamentu Europejskiego, które odbyły się w Zjednoczonym Królestwie Wielkiej Brytanii i Irlandii Północnej 4 czerwca 2009 r. Opisano kandydujące partie polityczne oraz ich programy. Zwrócono także uwagę na sprawy polskie, jakie ujawniły się w trakcie wyborów.

In this paper the author discusses and analyses elections to the European Union held June 4, 2009 in Great Brittan. The Conservative Party emerged victorious taking 26 of the 76 mandates, while the Labour Party suffered defeat winning only 13 mandates, that is the same number as the nationalist United Kingdom Independence Party. This campaign was overshadowed by the financial crisis and the crisis caused by the parliamentary expenses scandal. The racist British National Party experienced a spectacular success taking two mandates. Both nationalist parties skillfully used anti-immigration and anti- government sentiments. Polish notes appeared in these elections when parties strived to garner the votes of the Polish electorate. UKIP strongly attacked economic migration from Poland; before the elections the conservative leader David Cameron announced plans to create - together with the Polish PIS and other right-wing parties - a new group in the European Parliament. These elections results are a major signal of the British government's European policy in the aftermath of the May 2010 parliamentary elections. (original abstract)
