Szczegółowo omówiono specyfikę systemu partyjnego Belgii oraz zanalizowano wybory, które odbyły się w 2007 r. Scharakteryzowano także belgijskie partie polityczne: flamandzkie i walońskie.

This paper presents the specific nature of the Belgian party system, the electoral system, the main political parties and the 2007 election results. Belgium has a decentralized multi-party system, with at least two major parties holding the same ideological views. However, they appeal to different electorates linguistically. Up to the turn of the 1960s the Flemish and Francophone factions had one Christian democratic, socialist and liberal party each. From that time on, however, parties began breaking up along linguistic divides; differences in ideology and outlook were of secondary importance. This status makes creating a coalition government extremely difficult. On top of this, Belgium is an example of a consocial democracy where key decisions on the state's future are negotiated between the largest social groups. Belgian parties do not make up disciplined ideological conglomerates. (original abstract)
