Głównym celem pracy jest ocena i porównanie wybranych aspektów środowiskowych zagospodarowania odpadów z tworzyw sztucznych w Polsce i wybranym kraju UE, Austrii z punktu widzenia tzw. głównych celów gospodarki odpadami: ochrony człowieka i środowiska, racjonalnego gospodarowania zasobami, bezpiecznego deponowania pozostałości na składowiskach odpadami. In the article the current system of plastic waste management in Poland and Austria are analyzed from the viewpoint of the main goals of waste management. The quantitative assessment conducted using the material flow analysis (MFA) method is supported by the evaluation of a few chosen environmental aspects. The results obtained showed that the plastic waste management system in Poland does not fulfil the main goals of waste management, and the Austrian system - does to a limited extent. Such an analysis, supported by a simultaneous evaluation of the relevant economic issues could effectively aid a decision-making process concerning the development of the future waste management systems in Poland.
