Development of Commercial Banking Sector in Poland in Comparison to the EU Countries
Języki publikacji
Abstrakty
Przedstawiono tendencje w zakresie należności i zobowiązań polskiego sektora bankowego, a następnie omówiono sytuację polskiego sektora bankowego na tle innych krajów Unii Europejskiej.
Accession to the EU creates development opportunities for banks operating in Poland. For that reason, they are somehow obliged to catch up with the European level. In fact the process of adjustment of regulations and the whole organization of the banking system to the EU requirements has come to an end. As far as safety norms, capital requirements or product range are concerned Polish banks do not differ much from banks in the old member states. A big difference is noticeable however, in results achieved from operation. The level of banking product saturation measured by a ratio of bank assets to GDP is still on a relatively low level of 60%. In the countries of the so called old union ( before Polish accession) the ratio is higher than 100%. Polish banks besides, lose business with regard to granting loans and holding deposits to other financial institutions. (original abstract)
