EN

Technical product standards are becoming a central issue, after the significant reduction of tariff barriers and limits on quantitative restrictions. Internationally accepted product standards can facilitate international trade by reducing research and adaptation costs, cutting production costs where economies of scale exist. The international diversity of standards, however, can lead to technical barriers to trade, limiting the effect of regional integration. (fragment of text)
