In this study we initiated the analysis of the entrepreneurial behaviour of immigrants in Germany. In particular, we estimated the propensity of male and female immigrants towards self-employment as an alternative to the wage/salary sector. Based on GSEOP data for 1984 and 2000, we find that, unlike all other destination countries for immigrants - for instance, the United States with its blooming entrepreneurial sector and where immigrant entrepreneurship flourishes - Germany's self-employment sector occupies a very low share. The empirical results presented in this research suggest that the immigrants are drawn into the world of business ownership by different factors.(fragment of text)
