An increasing role of the investment fund industry in the world and higher expectations of the investors create the need for more appropriate financial instruments. The aim of the article is to describe new tendencies in the world investment fund market. The author of the article concentrates on bringing closer recent knowledge of the Exchange Traded Funds. He also attempts to prove that the ETF may determinate investment funds industry for the coming years. Applying a statistical analysis, he tries to draw the future trend of the world investment fund industry. Taking into account dynamics and structure of the net asset value, and the number of the investment funds in the world, he also attempts to reveal the new tendencies. The article summarizes and systematizes relevant events related to the ETF market and presents objectively the main characteristics of the instrument. (original abstract)
