Monopolised for many years polish power market has been strongly transformed for the past 9 years. Central control of power sector and fixing the energy prices by the country, has resulted in lack of power sector's financial effectiveness which in turn brought about an increase in energy prices and unclear development prospective. The rules of functioning of domestic power market were enclosed in Power Law and other related executive deeds. The polish power market will be divided into the following parts: contractual, exchange and SOBREE market. In order to ensure proper management of energy and protect the business of ultimate customers there was a power sector regulation introduced, which is being executed by Power Industry Regulation Authority (URE). The biggest problem, which blockades the competition in power sector are the long-term contracts. In the perspective of the oncoming years they will negatively impact the feature of power industry market and energy prices. This problem however, will be solved inside of the power industry sector by the long-term contracts' valuation. Existence of open market in case of power industry, conditions free selection of power supplier, what can now be observed on German, Dutch, Scandinavian, British and Spanish markets. The nature of competition on power industry market is to ensure, that energy sellers be able to offer their product and transact businesses. The objective in functioning of power industry market is to provide reasonable prices for customers, deliveries of energy with high quality parameters and to guarantee renumerativeness for entities functioning in power industry.
