Opracowana ponad 100 lat temu teoria instytucjonalizmu przeżywa obecnie swój renesans, znajdując zastosowanie w wielu dziedzinach nauki. Koncepcja ta znalazła również szerokie zastosowanie w badaniach z zakresu rachunkowości zarządczej, w szczególności w obszarze dotyczącym pomiaru dokonań i zmian zachodzących w systemach rachunkowości zarządczej.

The theory of institutionalism, which was developed over 100 years ago, is currently undergoing a re-naissance, finding application in many fields of science. The above mentioned theory is actually widely applied in management accounting researches, mainly in the field of performance measurement and management accounting change. Especially from the end of the twentieth century to the first decade of the twenty-first century there was an abundance of research based on the classical theory of institutional, New Institutional Economy, and sociological institutionalism. The aim of this paper is to present the essence of institutionalism, indicating the stages of its development and the role that this concept plays in the study of the nature of management accounting. The paper presents selected examples of studies that have used the concept of institutionalism and the problems associated with its use. (original abstract)
