Savings in The Polish Economy in Terms of the Life-Cycle Theory
Języki publikacji
Abstrakty
After the fall in 1990-92, a rise of the saving rate set in again in the Polish economy in 1993. The author investigates the general motivation to save and the pattern of saving. It is found that households are the main source of savings notwithstanding the decline in their relative contribution to national savings. To estimate their level the author uses the life-cycle model. When account is taken of the burden of obligatory contributions to social insurance imposed on the households' incomes, the rate of their saving appears to be consistent with the premises of the life-cycle model. The authors' opinion is that a partial shift of this contribution to the capital market would not only raise the level of accumulation in the economy, but also contribute to a higher rate of voluntary savings of households.
