The paper addresses the problem of internationalization and localization of web information systems. The focus is on the organizational framework that facilitates a sustained process of content translation for a web portal using information sources in several languages, at the same time publishing content in even more languages (including languages based on Latin alphabet, Russian and Chinese). We discuss the problem and the proposed solution in the context of a real-world example, which is the BalticMuseums 2.0 Online Information Platform (www.balticmuseums.net). The development and maintenance of this website has been used as an environment in which not only the possible issues were identified and analyzed, but also the proposed solution has been implemented and verified. Having experience from successful implementation, we believe the proposed translation framework can be used in development and maintenance of any website with similar language requirements. Although the described implementation was based on Drupal, which was found to be very capable in the area of internationalization, we believe that the proposed approach can be implemented with any content management system which has the necessary content translation features.
