International migration of population is a natural process inherently related to global economic development, although in historical terms, the phenomenon varies in intensity and may as well be triggered by diverse factors, such as demographic trends, climate changes, advances in production and trade or armed conflicts. Migratory movements, characterized by diverse reasons, course and outcomes, have one thing in common: they leave a significant imprint upon culture, economy and politics of both the origin and the destination country. Flow of population from one country to another may pose a considerable threat to internal stability of the affected society, but also offer great benefits for the destination economy. Increased inflow of immigrants may disturb social structures and eventually disrupt national security. Immigrant groups often demand that their rights be equal with those of the indigenous population, which may lead do social tension or even major conflicts. Nowadays, globalization and convergence of living standards among spatially distant countries helps cope with international mobility problems. At present, migration is increasingly more related to economic conditions. However, migration caused by wars and ethnic persecution still plays a significant role in the overall migratory patterns.
