The present study is aimed at the presentation of the significance of the risk management process connected with the implementation and application of financial instruments valuation models the for the quality of the bank risk management processes. The study presents the basic sources of the model risk as well as its consequences for other aspects of risk management. The selected examples show that despite considerable impact of the risk on both the bank financial results and image, it is often underestimated by the management of financial institutions. The paper focuses on model risk related regulatory requirements and market practices applied in order to mitigate this risk.(original abstract)
