The subject Human - Computer Interaction has been investigated over 40 years. There have been changes in computing which have fundamentally altered the predominant type of users and their expectations so that the user population is no longer homogeneous. Since when the main users have been almost anyone, usability of the system is the major problem. The power and speed of the computer has been so useful, if the user must spend more time learning how to use it. Therefore the design of user - system interaction has been very important. The aim of this paper is to characterise the effect of the major factors, on user - system interaction. There are presented four elements: the psychophysical attributes of the user, the conditions of the hardware and software, the kind of the task and the environment in which the task is to be undertaken.(original abstract)
