This paper presents and analyses the results of a structured survey that was undertaken among small and medium size enterprises in Poland in the beginning of 1999. It is found that the reaction of owners and managers to questions about their actual and potential demand for banking services and about their evaluation of the quality of banking services leads to conclusions about the necessity of changes in approach of banks towards enterprises. It is concluded that the quality-directed activities are a necessary condition of maintaining and improving bank's position in a competitive market. (original abstract)
