The paper affords possibilities for getting acquainted with a specific attitide existing in the contemporary criminology (or sociology as one likes), i.e. with the abolishing of prisons. This attitude is directed against constraint and senseless suffering. The author distinguishes certain spheres of the abolishing activities, informs on the idea of coming to an agreement of the two sides - the perpetrator and the victim - as well as on the idea of substituting the civil law for the criminal law, and on certain problems - paradoxes accompanying that movement. In the introduction attention is drawn to the dependence of the democratization process course upon the existence of various totalitarianism centres which are not perceived that way. Situation in which people become worse are studied and the basic negative effects of the confinement are enumerated. Finally, the author ponders over the reasons for the persistence of socially harmful institutions. (original abstract)
