Abstrakty

Lista problemów społecznych w Indiach jest bardzo długa. Obejmuje ona zarówno kwestie związane z niskim poziomem opieki zdrowotnej, wysokim stopniem analfabetyzmu, jak i znacznym udziałem społeczeństwa żyjącego poniżej granicy ubóstwa. Pomimo znacznych postępów w wielu dziedzinach, jakie dokonały się w ciągu ostatnich lat, wciąż wiele problemów pozostaje nierozwiązanych. Szybki wzrost gospodarczy, jaki jest udziałem Indii w ostatnim okresie, stwarza warunki i szansę, aby proces pozytywnych przemian nie został zahamowany i w następnych latach przyniósł kolejne pozytywne rezultaty(abstrakt oryginalny)

In the last decades India has achieved an undeniable economic success. The reforms carried out consistently after 1991 made India one of the fastest developing countries. The article attempts to answer the question whether the transitions really contributed to the growth in the standard of living of the Indian people or resulted only in social inequalities strengthening the split between the poor and wealthy parts of society. The standard of living in India in relation to other countries remains relatively low. Social problems refer to a low level of health care and high level of illiteracy as well as the poverty threshold below which a considerable part of the Indian society is living. Despite the considerable progress in many areas made in the last years, a lot problems remain unsolved. The rapid economic growth achieved in India recently creates proper conditions and chances so that the process of positive changes would not be hampered and bring further positive results in the future(original abstract)
