Between 2007 and 2013 (2015) Poland will become the number one beneficiary (among all the countries that became EU members in 2004) of the EU's structural funds. 85 billion Euros will be pumped into Polish economy from the following financial instruments: common regional policy, common agricultural policy, common fishery policy and other EU support programs, instruments and initiatives. The paper "Influence of the EU's structural funds on the development of Polish economy within next ten years" tries to analyse and predict the potential economic effects gained thanks to those financial instruments. The key element of the paper is the critical analysis of the three expert reports prepared by three independent research centres, using three different analytical and prognostic methods and tools. These reports stand for the so called ex-ante analysis of the implementation of the structural funds, which is an obligatory element of the National Strategic Reference Framework, a document requested by the European Commission from every country benefiting from the structural funds. Though all expert reports present a slightly different picture of the Polish economy in the next ten-year-period, they all have one common feature - they predict a positive impact of structural funds on the performance of Polish economy, namely higher GDP growth rate and narrowing the social- economic distance between Poland and the most developed countries of the EU. A significant blow to that positive (optimistic) picture (from today's point of view) is the economic crisis spreading all over the world. However, it is yet very difficult task to predict the final effect of the crisis both on the performance of the Polish economy and on the absorption of the structural funds. (original abstract)
