Aspects of insurance market and its risk in Albania

Insurance industry in Albania is at present at an early stage of development; the market is limited and dominated by compulsory types of insurances. This article analyzes the structure of the market and the consolidated balance sheet of the entire insurance sector. A set of financial indicators with recommended value spans is introduced and followed by the authors' calculations made for several Albanian insurance companies. The second part of the article deals with different types of risks to which insurance companies are mostly exposed and an attempt is made to identify those with the greatest impact on the current situation of the Albanian economy.
