Abstrakty

Celem opracowania jest omówienie różnych aspektów i czynników branych pod uwagę w konstruowaniu indeksu rozwoju finansowego (The Financial Development Index - FDI), opracowanego przez Światowe Forum Ekonomiczne (World Economic Forum). Końcowym rezultatem opracowania jest ocena stopnia rozwoju finansowego gospodarki polskiej na tle innych badanych krajów, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem oceny rozwoju sektora ubezpieczeń. Economic theory implies that development of financial markets and intermediaries is a key factor in economic growth, because it affects capital accumulation and technological innovation. Greater financial development leads to greater mobilization of savings. Despite the prominence of this topic in economic growth literature, there is still little agreement about how to define and measure financial system's development. This paper discusses the Financial Development Index (FDI), which measures various aspects of development: factors, policies, institutions, markets and services; the variety, size, depth, and efficiency of the intermediaries and financial markets, capital availability and access to financial services. Finally, we evaluate the degree of financial development in Polish economy with comparison to other world countries. (original abstract)
