Abstrakty
Population projections can be sorted from various points of view. According to demands on input and output we can distinguish - projections as an experimental tool -projections for educational purposes - projections of populations in developing countries, - projections of populations in developed countries. It is a very crude classification but sufficient enough for goals wanted to be presented here. There are some packages for personal computers for making population projections. But they are according to say opinion :
- not on the top in user-friendliness,
- not rigorous in the methodology, Such packages can be useful as experimental tools because the user is usually an experienced researcher who easily surmounts the user-unfriendliness and needs only working outputs to see some consequences. These packages can be also used as an educational tool if an experienced demonstrator is available. Packages for demographic projections are mostly designed for projections of populations in developing countries. Hence they focus on handling not detailed, incomplete or inaccurate demographic data and less attention is paid- to other problems which do not seem so important. Ail hitherto packages sis far as i know do not aid making forecasts (prognostic work)(fragment of text)
