Abstrakty

Rodziny wielodzietne to jedna z, mikrostruktur społecznych, która narażona jest na deprywację w zakresie zaspokojenia potrzeb. W szczególności obecnie, w okresie radykalnych przemian ekonomicznych w Polsce rodziny takie są zagrożone ubóstwem i stanowią potencjalnych klientów pomocy społecznej. Jak dużo rodzin wielodzietnych żyje w ubóstwie? Jakie są uwarunkowania popadania w ubóstwo wśród rodzin wielodzietnych? Czy tendencja ubożenia utrwala się w czasie i w jakim stopniu?

The article presents the results of the surveys, carried out by the Institute of Social Economy in 1990 and 1991, on the same sample of 250 large-size, labour families. The results of it constitute a contribution to increase knowledge of the phenomenon of falling into poverty some social categories in connection with economic transformation in Poland. They are the sources of information about appearing tendency of changes in living conditions of large families and the rate of their impoverishing. The main reasons of falling into poverty by large-size families are: bigger than average number of dependent children, low level of parents education and their qualifications, high risk of a loss of the job by persons of low professional qualifications, relatively low level of either consciousness or parents responsibility. The surveys show that the rate of falling into poverty among large-size families, over the period 1990-1991 is low, but visible and disquieting as social phenomenon. This is true that presently, such families live in difficult situation and the prospects for improving their living conditions, are not promising, because 24 percent of surveyed families suffered with the unemployment and further 47 percent were threatened with real loss of a job, by a parent, more often by father than by mother.
