Problemy ubóstwa i wykluczenia społecznego skupiają uwagę wielu obserwatorów sceny międzynarodowej. Porównanie dwóch ruchów społecznych - europejskiej spółdzielczości w jej początkowej, XIX-wiecznej formie oraz projektu Grameen z Bangladeszu w kontekście zaproponowanych przez nie sposobów walki z tymi problemami, daje wyobrażenie o przydatności nagromadzonych doświadczeń i przenikania się obu instytucji. The goal of this paper is to compare two social movements: European cooperatives in their initial 19th-century form and so called Grameen Project from contemporary Bangladesh. This comparison will be made in relations to methods of overcoming poverty and social exclusion. Thanks to combining information concerning both projects in one paper, it will be easy to observe signifi cant similarities and inspirations that Grameen has taken from the 19thcentury cooperative concepts. One of the thesis of the paper is that the background for both European cooperative movements and the Grameen Project was a lack of social policies. The European cooperative movement has lost its dynamics and initial character once welfare state has emerged. The Grameen Project remains lively thanks to the fact that Bangladesh, as a state, is still incapable to provide social policies. The threat for the Grameen Project, however, lies in attempts to take control over the project by corrupt authorities. (original abstract)
