Abstrakty

Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie zjawiska wewnętrznych (dotyczącego podmiotu powiększającego skalę produkcji) i technicznych (związanych z wielkością produkcji) korzyści kosztowych uzyskiwanych przy eksploatacji coraz większych statków kontenerowych. W globalnej żegludze kontenerowej mamy bowiem do czynienia ze szczególnie dużą konkurencją, a najważniejszym z czynników zapewniających armatorom przewagę na rynku jest nieustanne ograniczanie przeciętnych kosztów produkcji usług przewozowych. To z kolei jest bezpośrednio powiązane z korzyściami skali uzyskiwanymi w wyniku wprowadzania do eksploatacji coraz większych statków.(fragment tekstu)

The aim of the paper is to outline technical (based on output scale effects) cost economies with regard to deployment of ever increasing size of containerships (at the plant level). Cost economies related to size of containerships arise from decreasing of average costs of capital (interests and principal), crew and fuel consumption also common costs. The more time spent by containership at sea and the longer routes she is deployed, the smaller the cost per TEU. Decreasing costs per output unit may only be reflected in the lower transportation cost of TEU while the containership enjoys the high enough level of capacity utilization. In ports larger ship with greater load factor sustains diseconomies of scale. Diseconomies of scale in ports is to be limited by handling operations raising efficiency though despite of larger ship, the average time spent at port remains for mega containerships roughly unchanged.(author's abstract)
