The subject of this paper is the possibility of a currency crisis outbreak in Poland, with special regard to the risk induced in this respect by short-term capital flows. The following problems will be discussed: the mechanisms, effects and causes of currency crises (section II); the role of short-term capital flows in currency crises (section III); lessons from the currency crises of the 1990s (section IV) as well as the risk of currency crisis in Poland (section V). The most important conclusions, with special consideration given to the risks brought about by short-term capital flows, will be presented in section VI. (fragment of text)
