Rywalizacja gospodarcza Stanów Zjednoczonych z Chinami w Afryce Subsaharyjskiej w XXI wieku

Abstrakty
Po zakończeniu "zimnej wojny" państwa afrykańskie znalazły się na dalekich miejscach na liście priorytetów polityki zagranicznej Stanów Zjednoczonych. Spadło ich znaczenie jako terenu rywalizacji o wpływy z ZSRR. Poza tym w latach 90. XX wieku ceny ropy naftowej były stosunkowo niskie, co sprawiło, że malało zainteresowanie inwestorów tym kontynentem. Gospodarcze angażowanie się w Afryce było postrzegane jako ryzykowne. Paradoksalnie, taki obraz umacniały organizacje pomocowe, zbierające fundusze na potrzeby najbiedniejszych państw. Ich gospodarki były przedstawiane jako mało rozwojowe, niszczone przez korupcję i liczne konflikty zbrojne. Sytuacja zmieniła się za rządów George'a W. Busha. Po atakach terrorystycznych z 11 września 2001 r. Stany Zjednoczone zaczęły koncentrować się na walce z grupami terrorystycznymi działającymi w Afryce oraz zapewnieniu sobie dostaw ropy naftowej. Takie określenie celów prowadziło do tzw. militaryzacji polityki USA wobec tego kontynentu. Jednak w XXI wieku kraje afrykańskie zaczęły przyciągać więcej inwestycji zagranicznych, nastąpiło też ożywienie wymiany towarowej. W zdobywaniu rynków i inwestycji przedsiębiorcy z USA napotykali coraz poważniejszą konkurencję, głównie przedsiębiorstw chińskich. (fragment tekstu)
