Abstrakty

Znaczenie czynnika religijnego w stosunkach międzynarodowych stało się w ostatnich latach jednym z problemów wywołujących wiele sporów i polemik. W większości prac, w których analizowana jest kwestia miejsca i roli religii w świecie pozimnowojennym, odnaleźć można uwagę, że wydarzeniem, które w zasadniczy sposób przyczyniło się do intensyfikacji tej debaty, stanowiącej dla wielu badaczy i obserwatorów rzeczywistości międzynarodowej ogromne zaskoczenie, był 11 września 2001 r. W kontekście tych wydarzeń podkreśla się ponowne dostrzeżenie ważnego, choć nienowego czynnika we współczesnych stosunkach międzynarodowych, którego rosnący wpływ na kształt tych stosunków obserwowany był jeszcze przed zakończeniem "zimnej wojny". Mówi się tu o globalnym odrodzeniu czy renesansie religii (resurgence of religion), o powrocie religii z wygnania, religii jako o "przeoczonym elemencie" (overlooked element) stosunków międzynarodowych. Jednocześnie podkreśla się, że pomimo głęboko zakorzenionej w obszarze stosunków międzynarodowych tradycji nieuwzględniania czynnika religijnego jako istotnego elementu oddziaływań międzynarodowych dalsze analizowanie rzeczywistości międzynarodowej z pominięciem tego czynnika nie będzie możliwe. The paper deals with the issue of the global resurgence of religion, which is not only one of the most discussed but also one of the most disputable issues in the contemporary international relations. Religion, which was to disappear from the public scene as a result of the modernisation processes, was to be substituted by the Enlightenment ideals, such as reason and experience. Such attitude developed in the social sciences, including international relations, until the 1970s when the events of the Iranian revolution, the Polish "revolution" and a few other ones took place resulting in the reappearance of religion as an important factor of international relations in all parts of the world. Since the 1990s, especially in the context of the questions concerning the new world order after the end of the Cold War, religion has become the topic of scientific research again. The basic purpose of the paper was to answer what the global resurgence of religion actually means, what reasons of this process could have been observed and what the consequences of this phenomenon might be.
