Abstrakty

Województwo suwalskie, z uwagi na ubogą bazę surowcową i stosunkowo mało zdegradowane środowisko przyrodnicze i krajobrazowe, stanowi wyjątkowo atrakcyjny obszar dla rozwoju turystyki i gospodarki rolnej. Planowana budowa dużego zakładu przemysłowego /kopalnia i zakład przetwórczy rud polimetali w Krzemiance/ spowoduje nie tylko wzrost dochodów ludności, ale doprowadzi do zmiany podstawowych funkcji regionu. Planowana inwestycja charakteryzuje się najwyższym w skali województwa stopniem konfliktu przestrzenno-środowiskowego. Tak więc wzrost poziomu uprzemysłowienia województwa nie musi być tutaj równoznaczny ze wzrostem jakości życia ludności. Z tego też punktu widzenia istnieje konieczność rozpoznania możliwości przyrodniczych regionu w sprostaniu stawianym potrzebom gospodarczym i społecznym. Badaniem jakości życia zajmuje się wiele dyscyplin naukowych, Chociaż sam problem jest bardzo młody, to jednak konsekwentnie przenika do nauk społecznych, w tym również do geografii ekonomicznej.

An analysis of the hitherto transformations and pollution of natural environment in Suwalskie Voivodeship has been the aim of the present work. It was treated here as an element of the living standard evaluation. The living standard of population depends to a larger extent on the problem, whether the relatively high level of natural environment purity is preserved, with the simultaneous development of basic functions of the region, i.e. tourism, agriculture and forestry. Even a slight increase in the environment pollution in the region, characteristic of a limited power of resistence of natural ecosystem, is an acute problem of ecological and socio-economical natures. Hence, studying the hitherto directions of transformations and pollution of environment, before undertaking the decisions concerning the localization of large factories /mine and a plant for processing comples ore in Krzemionki near Suwałki/ is of crucial significance from both - environmental and social points of view. Current capabilities of the voivodeship to satisfy the basic needs of population and in the field of development of economic functions are wide. However, the problem consists in the fact, that the region is the subject of interest to citizens, particularly in the field of satisfying the needs for recreation. This is so owing to its unique and well-preserved natural environment. Over the years under study, there was reported a significant growth in attractiveness of the region, when compared with the remaining parts of the country. This does not mean however, that the quality of the natural environment in the region has not declined. However, it should be mentioned, that the pollution of natural environment and the functional conflicts will aggravate after the projected investment starts working. The development of the Suwalskie Region, improving the living standard of its inhabitants, should take into account the unique and relatively pure, when compared with the rest of the country, natural environment. Therefore, the development should consist in the creation of a modern food-production complex and the development of tourism, accordingly with the principles of natural environment preservation. There cannot be assumed the introduction of any effective economical activity, if the development of the industrial function of the region, apart from evident profits, is to bring about outrageous losses and restrict the possibility of development of the hitherto functions of the region.
