Abstrakty

We współczesnej ekonomii głównego nurtu wypowiedzi odnoszące się w sposób bezpośredni do zagadnień natury etycznej są rzadkością. Ekonomiści niezbyt chętnie angażują się w rozważania dotyczące tego rodzaju kwestii nawet wówczas, gdy problemy etyczne wywierają znaczny wpływ na życie gospodarcze. Dlatego można przypuszczać, że wykorzystane w tytule sformułowanie ekonomista jako kaznodzieja w uszach większości współczesnych przedstawicieli tej nauki prawdopodobnie zabrzmiałoby niepokojąco. Przecież ekonomiści w takiej roli nie występują! Po takiej konstatacji niemal automatycznie jawi się pytanie: czy warto w takim razie poświęcać uwagę zjawisku, którego nie ma? Cóż, wydaje się, że kwestia wypełniania bądź niewypełnienia przez ekonomistów roli kaznodziejów wymaga głębszego rozważenia, a bez względu na ostateczne rozstrzygnięcie warto z pewnością zastanowić się nad tym, jakie czynniki leżą u źródeł braku zainteresowania ekonomistów ortodoksyjnych zagadnieniami etycznymi. In the mainstream of contemporary economics the statements about ethics are very rare. They are rather the exception than a rule. This fact could be assessed in many different ways. However, in spite of the assessment, there remains a question: on what grounds are the economists entitled to express the opinions on what is right or wrong, virtuous or not? The purpose of the article is to discuss the above question and to determine how the economists act the part of the preachers-advisers. The points of reference for the reflections presented in the article are the ideas comprised in the set of George Stigler's essays entitled Economics or Ethics? On the other hand, such points of reference are also to be found in Alfred Marshall's attitude to economics. (original abstract)
