Consumers become increasingly involved in the process of creating products and services, which to a certain point was the domain of companies and professionals. Technological development in software and hardware has contributed to the disappearance of entry barriers that once separated amateurs from professionals. Cheap and fast access to information, tools of production, distribution and communication channels (mainly internet), and active consumer behavior, have contributed to the development of this phenomenon. Enterprises are increasingly using the potential of online communities to build competitive advantage.(original abstract)
