The main objective of the study was to identify the potential of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to undertake challenges. The research undertaken shows that the awareness level of Polish SMEs in the area of environmental requirements remains low, although is increasing during the last years. The results of the conducted field research clearly confirm the results of the earlier studies, indicating that the awareness level concerning environmental impact remains relatively low among representatives of the SME sector. Among all firms covered by the CATI survey, 63% did not identify any impact of their operations on the environment. Due to the lack of knowledge of their influence on the environment, SME can be a singnificant danger for the environment and can efficiently undermine many operations concerning environment protection. Cost is main reason of pro-ecological activities of SME in Poland(author's abstract)
