Omówiono założenia modelu Balassy-Samuelsona oraz zbadano efekt tego modelu na państwa przystępujące do unii monetarnej, zwracając szczególną uwagę na Polskę.

The aim of the paper is to describe the Ballasa-Samuleson model which offers a supply - side explanation of inflation which is higher and is associated with real exchange rate appreciation. This effect is in countries where the productivity growth is relatively high. The inflation in this economies of this countries is explained by high productivity growth between tradable and non- tradable sectors. This theory become very popular during the debate concerning adopting euro and meeting the Maastricht criteria. From the point of view EMU accession he effect of this model in transition economies is very important because Poland and other countries will avoid potential problems associated with meeting the Maastricht criteria. The model will provide countries guidance in managing the exchange rate in the ERM II period. (original abstract)
