The aim of the article is to present the possible ways of grouping organic functions of ancillary nature in the so-called competence centres. Various forms of competence centres, ranging from the simplest forms focused on contract outsourcing to the most advanced such as the shared services centre have been presented and discussed. The theoretical assumptions have been subjected to empirical verification. As a result of the research, among targeted national multi-entity enterprises, competence centres actually occurring in business practice have been identified. In this paper the main research issue comes down to the following question: how are modern competence centres grouping functions of ancillary nature in multi-entity enterprises organized?
