One of the topics of Poland's political and economic public debate since 2009 has been the issue of separation of the administrative area of Warsaw from the Mazovia voivodeship in the next EU financial perspective after 2013. The question above has a substantial relevance to the possibility of obtaining and the size of the allocation of the European Funds for Warsaw and Mazovia, which are awarded based on the criterion level of per capita GDP in a given territorial area in relation to the EU average. The author conducts a brief analysis of the needs and merits of the issue of possible changes in the structure of Mazovia for favorable allocations of EU cohesion policy. Due to the fact that the issue is a matter for the future EU financial perspective - 2014-2020, and the rules of the EU cohesion policy for that period are not yet known, and are subject to negotiations, now it is too early to definitely determine whether there will be a need for changes, and if so, what. One can only deal with scenarios of possible changes, plotted based on current statistics and the current principles of distribution of EU funds. (original abstract)
