Abstrakty

The present article conducts a preliminary analysis of the day of the week effect. On the basis of results concerning relative changes in the values of WIG and WIG 20 it may be stated that this kind of seasonality is reflected on the Warsaw Stock Exchange in Monday, Thursday and Friday exchange rate rises as well as Wednesday declines in quotations. It is worth noting that the registered changes take effect between the beginning of December and the end of February. The phenomenon shows as a rule the growth in changeability, though it is not very significant. As a consequence, the behaviour of the Polish capital market as exemplified by this form of seasonality should be regarded as different from the American stock market model.(original abstract)
