Political Economy of US Military Presence Overseas and Proposal of Reform

This paper attempts to present an alternative to the United States as the "world's policeman" or at least to present a thought experiment (Gedankenexperiment) as to a rational way to introduce economics and allocative efficiency into the provisioning of national defense for the US and its allies. I begin by providing some background facts and theoretical underpinnings to frame the argument that the US should introduce cost-sharing for its troops located overseas. I then in the next section apply these concepts to the data. In the course of this paper we are not questioning the ends of US foreign policy, only the means. (fragment of text)
