An Attempt to Calculate a Probability of a Catastrophe Occurrence

From the perspective of risk management in an insurance company, it is really necessary to consider a problem of providing some cover in case catastrophic losses occur. To include risk of a catastrophe in an insurance tariff is one of the direct forms of protecting finances of an insurance company. Considering catastrophic loss in categories of estimating insurance risk involves analysing cases in question from two perspectives. On the one hand, there is a financial dimension of a catastrophe since such events generate high value losses. On the other hand, the frequency of occurrences of similar events is taken into account as well. Is it possible - to satisfy needs of an insurance company - to perform a calculation of probability that catastrophes will occur? And what is even more, what is the effectiveness of such analyses? I would like to try to answer these questions in my article. (fragment of text)
