Nowadays, intensive economic transformations require entrepreneurs to be able to adapt to changing socio-economic circumstances, which should be facilitated by a legislator. At the same time, we are witnessing the legislator's necessity to react to already unknown threats of catastrophic nature whose sources are to be found either in the very nature (floods as a result of atmospheric factors) or they are attributed to a human being (e.g. nuclear terrorism, contamination of land or air). In view of such threats, protection of the environment (natural and human) realised by means of, inter alia, a system of economic insurances becomes a challenge of contemporary times. The protection in question is particularly important when man becomes a source of threat. Therefore, it seems justified to demonstrate all consequences of changes made to the system of business insurances by the legislator. Much attention should also be paid to the issue of limitation of claims by lapse of time in case of third party liability insurance as the most common example of attempts undertaken to provide the environment with insurance protection.
