Health Risk and Insurance Prevention Versus Effectiveness of the Polish Healthcare System in the Era of A Deepening Financial Crisis

A universal system of health insurance that is functioning at present in Poland is deemed insufficient, imperfect in many respects and, predominantly, unable to meet continuous needs for medical benefits. Obviously, it is necessary to take into account the fact that the very system itself is a resultant of a few overlapping determinants that are not always consistent and that involve political, socio-demographic and economic factors. Because of such a set of factors, economic objectives do not always correspond to social or political ones. Hence, a few questions are raised. To which extent should a universal system of health insurance depend on the above mentioned elements and when can it be deemed effective? Is it really possible to measure such effectiveness? In this article, the author will undertake some attempts at answering these and some other questions related to protection and promotion of health. (fragment of text)
