Abstrakty

Poniższy artykuł jest próbą kompleksowego przedstawienia polskiemu czytelnikowi zagadnienia backpackingu. W pierwszej części autorzy skupiają się na rysie historycznym i ewolucji tego zjawiska. Zostały w niej zaprezentowane różne spojrzenia środowiska naukowego na backpacking oraz ważniejsze badania, które miały wpływ na kształtowanie się definicji i określenie fundamentów backpackingu. W dalszej części artykułu została rozszerzona koncepcja filarów backpackingu oraz ich przemian wraz z ukazaniem się kolejnych badań naukowych. Wiedza ta jest niezbędna do poprawnego określenia ram omawianego typu turystyki. Na zakończenie autorzy analizują ewolucję i wyłanianie się nowych subkultur w obrębie backpackingu, a także grup, które mogą być mylone z backpackersami. Autorzy opierają się na analizie literatury przedmiotu, treści przewodników serii Lonley Planet oraz na obserwacjach własnych prowadzonych w Tajlandii, Filipinach, Wietnamie, Birmie, Laosie i innych krajach odwiedzanych powszechnie przez tę kategorię podróżników. W związku z tym, że zjawisko backpackingu zaczyna cieszyć się w Polsce coraz większą popularnością, stąd warto mu się przyjrzeć, by lepiej zrozumieć obecny ruch turystyczny i dynamikę, jaka w nim zachodzi. This article is an attempt to present the issue of backpacking to a Polish reader in a comprehensive way. In the first part the authors focus on the historical outline along with the evolution of this phenomenon. Various scientific views on backpacking have been presented here along with more important research in this area which have influenced the development of the definition and determined the basis of backpacking. In the second part of the article the concept of the underlying principles of backpacking was extended, as well as their transformation and the appearance of the new research. This knowledge is necessary to determine the framework of backpacking in the correct way. Therefore, in the last part the authors focus on the evolution and emergence of new subcultures within the backpacking trend as well as of new groups which can be taken mistakenly for backpackers or the groups which originated from backpacking. The sources used by the authors include the analysis of subject matter literature, the information provided by the Lonely Planet guidebook series, as well as their own observations from Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam, Burma, Laos and other countries typically visited by this category of travellers. The phenomenon of backpacking is well known in western societies and it is often practised there. In Poland this form of travelling is becoming more and more popular, therefore a closer look at it is worth taking in order to better understand modern tourism along with its dynamics.
