Abstrakty

Badacze zajmujący się problematyką jakości życia ludzi w wieku senioralnym podkreślają m.in. wagę takich czynników jak: posiadanie dobrych relacji społecznych, pomoc i wsparcie, życie we własnym domu, poczucie bezpieczeństwa, posiadanie dobrego zdrowia, możliwość poruszania się, posiadanie wystarczającej sumy pieniędzy na zaspokojenie potrzeb, cieszenie się życiem i poczucie niezależności oraz kontroli nad swoim życiem (Gabriel i Bowling, 2004: 675). Pogłębione wywiady z ludźmi starszymi w wieku 65 do 80 lat ukazały, jak istotne z ich punktu widzenia są relacje z rodziną, przyjaciółmi, sąsiadami. Z perspektywy ludzi starszych jakość życia podnoszą: regularne i bezpośrednie kontakty z rodziną, dobre, emocjonalnie wspierające i pełne miłości relacje z dziećmi, wnukami, bliskimi krewnymi, poczucie troski ze strony bliskich i zapewnienia, że gdyby pojawiły się problemy zawsze otrzymają pomoc (Gabriel i Bowling, 2004: 678-679). Podobne wyniki raportują także inni badacze ukazując, że dla ludzi starszych życie we własnym domu oraz posiadanie dobrych relacji społecznych, szczególnie w kontekście pojawienia się poważnych chorób, ma podstawowe znaczenie dla poczucia dobrostanu (Netuveli i Blane, 2008: 117). Jakość życia osób w wieki senioralnym w dużej mierze zależy od warunków środowiskowych.(fragment tekstu)

The objective of this paper is to present an overview of the literature on conflicts between adult siblings concerning caregiving to elderly parents. Aging process of parents involves a lot of new issues, decisions and can bring the best or the worst in sibling relationships. Potential sources of conflicts may emerge from the lack of clarity in families as to who and to what extent is supposed to give support to aging parents. The perspective of long time caregiving to older parents may for many adult children be hard to imagine and difficult to render. The intergenerational solidarity paradigm was used as a conceptual framework in explanation of motivation of adult siblings to support their older parents and successfully resolve all conflicts. The article concludes with a recommendation of using family mediation as a valuable method of conflict resolution between adult siblings concerning caregiving to older parents. (author's abstract)
