Role of Local Government in Promotion of Sustainable Building

The study attempted to present Poland's initiative concerning sustainable building within the Strategy Europe 2020. Its aim was to pre-sent the role of local government in supporting sustainable building. A hy-pothesis was proposed that local governments in Poland act as initiators of the processes of sustainable development on local scale. The analysis concerned the assumptions of the Strategy Europe 2020, Vision of Sus-tainable Development for Polish Business, analysis and reports of national initiatives and the contribution of local governments to initiatives of sus-tainable building. It was demonstrated that the role of the main initiator of sustainable development of cities is being taken over not only by local governments but also by partnership with business self-governments.(original abstract)
