Assessment of Investment Policy Independence of the Second Pillar Old-age Pension Institutions

The aim of the article is to answer a question whether institutions of the second pension pillar enjoy full and free competition in that respect or, as a result of the applicable minimum expected rate of return, smaller funds build their investment portfolios based on observing the structure of large market participants' portfolios. Moreover, consequences of legislative amendments, applicable from May 2011, for the pension insurance market will be assessed. An attempt will be made at analysing a change in the financial potential of pension funds as a result of the reduced percentage of pension insurance contributions transferred to their investment portfolios.
