Abstrakty

Dobroczynny wpływ lektury na psychikę człowieka został potwierdzony w ujęciu historycznym, medycznym, psychologicznym. Terapia książką znajduje swoje zastosowanie tam, gdzie potrzebujący oprócz wsparcia farmakologicznego oczekują na duchowe przeżycie. Książki "leczą" problemy dnia powszedniego, pozwalając powrócić do zdrowych kontaktów międzyludzkich i osiągnąć wewnętrzną równowagę. Jako lek mają proste działanie - dodają sił, uwalniają od lęków. Najczęstsze wady biblioterapii określa się mówiąc o braku metodologii towarzyszącej działaniom terapeutycznym. W swojej pracy starałam się udowodnić, że są to zarzuty bezpodstawne. Współczesna biblioterapia, chociaż w Polsce jest od niedawna, wypracowała swój warsztat, nazwała techniki pracy, metody, określiła cele i mechanizmy oddziaływania. (fragment tekstu)

Literature serves a multitude of functions in the upbringing and schooling process. The formal system of education provides children and youth with access to various literary forms, which support their growth as well as their emotional, moral and intellectual maturing processes. The tasks expected to be fulfilled by books at school depend on curricula and educational requirements. The superior values, i.e. upbringing and schooling, dominate all the others. However, literature, culture texts may also serve other functions, thus carrying out also other tasks entrusted to the Polish school, i.e. the provision of psychological and educational care. It seems, therefore, that bibliotherapy should be introduced into the school. The therapeutic aspect of literature will allow schoolchildren to develop a subjective approach to life, preventing events that strip them of their sense of identity and security, setting in motion mechanisms that badly affect their private and social relationships, at the same time making effective human communication impossible. Bibliotherapy may prove an effective method to be applied with disadvantaged schoolchildren, who suffer from numerous emotional problems, are rejected by their group, are prone to aggression, are unable to act assertively, and require revalidation and social rehabilitation. Bibliotherapy is similar to psychotherapy and pedagogical therapy in that it also teaches a person how to feel all right in a new difficult situation, provides information about how to handle difficulties and includes elements of social prevention. The bibliotherapeutic procedure is divided into three stages: therapeutic diagnosis, selection of reading matter suitable for therapy, and a therapeutic and educational procedure. Bibliotherapists responsible for therapy play a very important role. Their personality may help or prevent the self-healing process, and that is why it is important that they approve of their patients, observe and stimulate them in the group in order to gain insight into their attitude. A library satisfies all the requirements to become a fully-fledged bibliotherapy unit. In the educational system a library fulfils a plethora of tasks. At school it is above all a place where librarians are able to work with individual readers. A casual atmosphere, devoid of any pressure, and schoolchildren's contact with librarians unhindered by any official grades, their friendly advice, and free access to various sources of information all enable the library to perform an upbringing function. Among the most frequently mentioned shortcomings of bibliotherapy is the lack of methodology. Such a claim is ungrounded, as bibliotherapy possesses a set of required skills, procedures, working techniques, clearly defined objectives and mechanisms of influence. (original abstract)
