The Spatial Distribution of Population Ageing in Poland in the Years 1988-2001

This article presents the direction of changes in the age structure of the Polish population in towns and communes. Shares of population have been analysed, as well as their changes in four age groups (0-19, 20-39,40-59 and above 60). An index of changes in the age structure has been proposed (Ias), based on the changes in the share of the stated population age groups. The analysis points to spatial diversification of the ageing process of the Polish population and the high dynamics of ageing of the urban population. (original abstract)
